At the University of Žilina, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering can now look forward to receiving a new robot. Within the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, three faculties will each receive one robot – the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, and the Faculty of Materials Science and Technology (based in Trnava). The Technical University of Košice will deploy two robots at the Faculty of Manufacturing Technologies (based in Prešov) and the Faculty of Mining, Ecology, Process Control and Geotechnologies. The selection of faculties depended on the universities’ requirements, their focus, and the current needs of educational and research activities.
“In today’s era of digitalisation, robots have become a fundamental element in logistics. For students to fully understand their importance within material flows, hands-on training on industrial robots is the most appropriate approach. On behalf of all the recipient universities and faculties, we are very pleased and grateful to Kia for providing exactly what we have been looking for for quite some time. These robots will be particularly helpful for us in newly emerging segments at the university,” said Martin Straka, Director of the Institute of Logistics and Transport at TUKE.
Kia Slovakia decided to donate the robots following a generational replacement of several robots in its body shop. All donated robots are fully functional and have been regularly maintained. This year, 56 out of a total of 386 robots were replaced in the body shop.
“We are pleased that fully functional robots will continue to be used and that we can support universities in their educational and professional activities in this way. The robots will primarily serve students for training in robot operation and programming. These processes are significantly more complex for industrial robots than for educational robots. As a result, student preparation for careers in industry and logistics will be further enhanced,” added Tomáš Potoček, Spokesperson for Kia Slovakia.
