Kia has unveiled the stylish Sportage Black Edition, featuring attractive glossy black exterior elements. Production of the Kia Sportage Black Edition began at the Kia Motors Slovakia plant in Teplička nad Váhom during November, with European sales starting in December 2020.
“This is the first Black Edition model that Kia is introducing in Europe. It offers stylish enhancements that refresh the appearance of the Sportage and provide customers with greater opportunities for personalization. The Sportage is one of Kia’s best‑selling models in Europe and represents all the core values of the Kia brand—great design, innovative technologies, and high quality,” said Emilio Herrera, Chief Operating Officer of Kia Motors Europe.
The Sportage Black Edition retains the elegant design of the classic Sportage crossover, enhanced by exclusive glossy black accents that give the vehicle a bold and confident new look. These include a new front grille surround, front and rear skid plates, headlamp and front fog‑lamp surrounds, and gloss‑black roof rails.
The Sportage Black Edition also features new darkened Kia logos at the front and rear. The small silver Sportage badge has been replaced by a large glossy black Sportage script positioned centrally on the tailgate. The 17‑inch alloy wheels are finished in black and complemented by dark Kia logo center caps. Chrome door handles have been replaced with body‑color handles.
The limited Sportage Black Edition is available in seven exterior colors, all complementing its darker and more confident appearance. Inside, the Sportage Black Edition features premium fabric upholstery, a leather‑wrapped steering wheel, gear selector, and door armrests.
Even in its standard specification, the Sportage Black Edition offers a high level of equipment, including front and rear parking sensors. The model comes as standard with a wide range of comfort and safety technologies, such as electrically adjustable driver’s lumbar support, electrically folding exterior mirrors with LED indicators, rain sensor, auto‑dimming rear‑view mirror, and dual‑zone automatic climate control.
The infotainment system features the latest 8‑inch touchscreen display, UVO Connect Phase II, as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. For enhanced convenience, the system offers a suite of connected‑car services, providing information such as fuel prices and nearby fuel stations, parking availability, and real‑time traffic updates.
Petrol and mild‑hybrid diesel engines ensure low emissions and operating costs. Depending on the market, the Sportage Black Edition is available with up to five engine options. The 1.6 T‑GDi petrol engine delivers 177 hp and 265 Nm of torque, while the naturally aspirated 1.6‑liter GDi engine produces 161 Nm of torque.
The Sportage Black Edition also offers three variants of Kia’s 1.6‑liter Smartstream diesel engine. Two conventional diesel versions provide either 115 hp and 280 Nm or 136 hp and 320 Nm. The third option is a 1.6‑liter diesel engine combined with a 48‑volt battery, the Kia EcoDynamics+ mild‑hybrid system, delivering 136 hp and 320 Nm.
Depending on the powertrain, the Sportage Black Edition is available with front‑wheel drive or all‑wheel drive, paired with either a six‑speed manual transmission or a seven‑speed dual‑clutch automatic transmission.
