Kia Motors Slovakia posts revenues of EUR 3.919 billion for its fiscal year 2012


In 2012, Kia Motor Slovakia’s manufacturing facility produced a record 292,050 vehicles for that year, a 15-per cent increase in comparison to 2011. Additionally, the company also achieved a 29-per cent year-on-year growth in engine production with 464,467 engines rolled off the manufacturing lines in just one year. Based on the production results the plant generated total revenues amounting to the value of EUR 3.919 billion. The plant exported 99 per cent of its manufactured vehicles and 51 per cent of engines, which represents the value of EUR 3.867 billion. Kia earned a net profit of EUR 155.5 million. In January 2012 Kia launched a third work shift due to the preparation for a volume production launch of the all-new Kia cee’d and Sportswagon. In total, Kia currently employs around 3,900 people and is planning to produce the same output in Slovakia as last year. "Thanks to our employees we have been able to produce the highest amount of vehicles in our history and successfully launched the effective three-shift operation in 2012. We aim to continue in the production of high quality products, mainly the new Kia cee’d comers such as the GT to be introduced in the near future”, Eek-Hee Lee, President and CEO of Kia Motors Slovakia. In 2012, the company Kia Motors Slovakia invested EUR 120 million in the Slovak Republic and has invested an overall EUR 1.4 billion since its inception in 2004. Furthermore, it installed new technologies, completed a new logistics centre in the locality of the press shop, and extended a consolidation centre for a smooth flow of components.

The plant manufactured 292,050 cars in 2012 which were exported to all European countries. This included 120,600 units of the Kia cee’d model (41 per cent), 136,514 units of the SUV Kia Sportage (47 per cent), and 34,936 units of the Kia Venga MPV (12 per cent). The Kia Sportage model was the most produced and has reached a 34-per cent year-on-year increase. Kia launched a volume production of the three-door Kia pro-cee’d model in February this year. The factory is actually preparing for the production of the first high performance models, the three-door Kia pro-cee’d GT and the five-door Kia cee’d GT with 1.6-litre GDI. The production of the GT versions is scheduled for May 2013. The new versions will be introduced at the Geneva Motor Show on Tuesday, March 5, 2013.
