Kia Motors Opens Second Production Plant In China


On December 10, 2007, Kia Motors Corporation, one of the fastest growing automakers in the world, in conjunction with Dongfeng Yueda Kia Motors, opened its second manufacturing facility in China. The amount of the investment presents 800 million USD.

In full operation, the facility will have an annual production capacity of 300,000 cars, bringing total production in China to 430,000. In additional to the 300,000 unit annual capacity in Slovakia, Kia´s overseas production capacity will be further boosted to 1,030,000 units annually with the completion of Kia´s first North American plant in Georgia in 2009.

The new plant began producing the Cerato sedan in October, with the 5-door hatchback version added earlier in December.

Currently, the new plant employs 1,400 people, the plan is to bring the total employment by plant to 2,750 employees.
